Life on the inside: How we spend our time while staying at home

The first couple of days staying at home felt like heaven.
I slept in, enjoyed my breakfast in bed that was prepared by my favourite chef, my boyfriend, Carl.
I previously wrote a post about things you should know before dating a chef if you missed it, click here to read.
Then I cuddled up with Carl and Happy in the bed and watched an all-time favourite Disney movie, Mulan.
It's also number 1 on my list. It was precisely just like when I was little, all fun and nothing to do. Then it just happened.
I was scrolling through the Netflix collection find nothing to watch, I was heading to the snack cupboard more than I care to mention and the walls just started to feel a little closer than the day before.
Yes, I was officially bored. I felt demotivated, tried and didn't feel one bit like myself.

I know that we are all in this together and we all currently going through some sort of struggles.
Let it be financial difficulties, loss of jobs, the welfare of your own or your families, mental health and of course risking your health to help others.
I know that people have more severe difficulties than not able to travel, and this might seems to be a low priority, but this was our entire plan for 2020.
We suppose to be in Seville this week and in Venice two weeks after that to spend my 26th birthday over there.
Since we purchased our home back in December 2017, we haven't been able to travel as such as we would love to.
If you missed my post about how we purchased our home, click here to read.
So we deiced to take action and as our 2020 resolution promised to ourselves that we would travel at least every two months and put everything on hold around the house.
Life doesn't work this way, and sometimes it doesn't turn out how we hoped, planned or expected, and if that happens, we all feel tremendous disappointment.

Exactly how I felt. I started doubting everything, including myself.
I began to realise that this is normal, and I should feel this way as every pain has a healing side.
Like when I went through my first breakup( sorry Carl), first sickness or when someone took one of my precious items like my first bike.
I was more than upset about all these, and I started to doubt myself, about things that couldn't even be connected to the situations.
The truth is that it was all because of my thoughts were a bit wonky. These situations just exposed every negative belief I ever had about myself.
Now I know about myself that when something doesn't go as I planned, I panic for a minute, then I feel blue.
This is one of my weakness, so I have been working on it very hard for a while.
It's a long process, and it wasn't easy to face the fact that I have a weakness and what it is.
Learning about self-awareness is such a powerful and helpful thing.
The ability to focus on you, recognise your actions, monitor your emotions and thoughts in different situations will help with your overall wellbeing.

So I took action, and I decided to create a to-do list for ourselves while we stuck in the house.
I found that one of the solutions to my problem could be to find myself a project and to keep myself busy.
We purchased a 110 years old Victorian property, so it's evident that there is always work that can be done or something to do.
I'm positive, and I have high hopes that everything will be back to normal and people, businesses won't struggle for too long.
I realised that our plan A would be pushed for the following year.
So, Carl and I sat down and agreed on a new idea, plan B.
See, disappointments are really just different opportunities.

Plan B holds a bit of different fun.
A lot of work around the house and by all means no relaxed sunbathing by the sea or drinking coconut water under the palm trees.
If I'm honest, I find both of these things enjoyable and luckily Carl feels the same.

We have only a small amount of materials left from the previous renovations, and all the deliveries have long delays, we started to work in different areas around the house using whatever we have left.
One of the first things we started to work on is the small room.
Even though this room is the smallest in the entire house, it has so many functions.
Once it's done, it will be my office for a while until my actual office gets a new shiny cover.
After that, this is where the guest room will take place.
Carl did all the electrical works in the room by adding extra sockets and moving the exciting ones somewhere else.
Now the next step is to have the floor to be restored or covered we haven't quite decided on that yet.
We entirely replaced the floorboards in the dining room, which I love still very much.
We have victorian floorboards all around the house but unfortunately due to the age of this property not everywhere is possible to restore them and they are not budget-friendly to be replaced.
The walls are so wonky and uneven that's depressing to look at.
That's another challenge for us to fix, luckily we have all the time we need in our hand to do so. When the materials arrive, I'm hoping that this room won't be a long project and I can move in as soon as possible.

While we are waiting for the deliveries, we started the stairs and the hallway too.
When I say us, I mean I'm here writing this post, and Carl is out there fighting with the carpet right now. Sorry, blogger duties.
Where was I, oh yes the stairs. Well, it's another nightmare that is not so pretty to look at.
The day before we put our stamp on this property, I knew that I want to restore those beautiful iconic victorian wooden stairs.
So that old and disgusting carpet has to go. If you ever removed a carpet, you know the downsides of it, if not I will let you find out.
am just kidding.
In short, you will end up removing nails for days and no matter how clean is that carpet there will be dust everywhere.

If you all remember, my parents were over for the holidays, and my dad started to work in the laundry room just because he was bored.
I'm so lucky to have him.
He ended up finishing the room until the framework, so now we only have to plasterboard the entire room, including the ceiling then the real fun can begin. Again we are still waiting for those plasterboards to come.

There is only one thing to do in the dining room beyond the rest of the decorations, which is the coving on the ceiling. It's not a complicated project, and it can be easily done in a couple of hours, so that's something we planned for next week.

We share plenty of stories and pictures of every refurbishment we do.

We just wanted to use our time a bit more wisely while we all stuck in the house instead of feeling bored, sitting down and getting lost in the Tik-Tok videos.
Hope you all safe and staying at home if you can.
