Festive Mulled Wine Recipe

Festive Mulled Wine Recipe

I have always believed that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.
Doesn't matter how much my days ruined by some upsetting things around Christmas everything filled with joy.
Believing that good things can happen..
Every family has their own traditions about how to spend the holidays.
If you follow my blog regularly, you know by now that I have been spending Christmas far away from mine.
It has been six years that I haven't spent the holidays with my family. This is why I have been trying to create new traditions in our small family around this joyful month.
By the way, my parents and my little brother (I don't even know why I call him little brother when he is actually in his twenties and so much taller than me) are coming for Christmas this year!
Honestly, I cannot wait.

One day while we were at the Christmas market in Manchester, it was an extremely cold night, so I wanted to grab a hot drink to keep me warm while we walk around the city.
I started to follow this magical smell of a beverage I didn't know what it was first when I got to the this beautifully decorated hut I saw that it is mulled wine.
This was the first time I tried mulled wine, and since that day, it has become our tradition to make it every year.

There is nothing better than a hot glass of mulled wine with a cosy, knitted blanket on the couch next to the lightened up Christmas tree.
I love that this drink can get you into the festive feeling anytime.
Fragrant spices, cinnamon and lemon, are infused in this warming, seasonal drink.
I love that mulled wine is full of festive flavours.

The essence of Christmas is captured in this mulled wine recipe.

Ingredients:

1 bottle of red wine
60g demerara sugar
1 large cinnamon stick
4 cloves
1 orange rind-avoid pith
2 strips of lemon zest

Method:
1) Pour the wine in a saucepan with all the ingredients. ( I told you it is extremely easy!)
2) Heat until the sugar has dissolved. Make sure you taste it and if you would like
a bit sweeter, add more sugar.
3) Take the pan off the heat, strain into heatproof glasses and serve at once.
If you wanted, you could buy cinnamon sticks to serve in the mug with your mulled wine as decoration.
Enjoy a little Christmas in a piece of glass.
