Make your own luxurious Christmas crackers

Make your own luxurious Christmas crackers

I should possibly start this post with an explanation as many of you might don't know what a Christmas cracker is. Don't worry, I hadn't had a clue about it either before I moved to the UK.
Christmas crackers are an essential item during the festive period in the United Kingdom. They have been a holiday staple for well over a century in the UK.
It's a tube-shaped cardboard paper wrapped in all sort of beautiful coloured paper and twisted at both ends. It has a banger inside the cracker so when is pulled apart by two people the cracker emits a bang. Certainly this is where the name from. It's a type of party favour that is also a part of the festive table decorations.
Crackers are filled typically with a tissue party hat, a joke or riddle and a small gift. It can be either a silly toy or a luxurious gift.
Crackers are usually opened before the Christmas dinner, so then everyone can wear their paper crown during the feast.
It makes Christmas a bit more fun.

I like to buy beautiful Christmas crackers to set the scene for a jolly festive dinner.
There are so many different crackers out there during the holidays. Crackers usually sold in a set. It can contain six or even more in a box.
The prices vary it can start from a pound to even 296£ it all depends on what gift contains inside.

This year I decided to give a go to make my own crackers instead of the store-bought ones.
This way, I can set the dinner table with my own unique crackers and give extra personal touches to the gifts. I wanted to fill the crackers with things I know they will enjoy instead of surprises that my guests and my family might won't like.

As there are so many other things to get sorted before Christmas, so I didn't have time to make the crackers entirely from scratch, so I bought a cracker making kit for only 2 pounds. If you wish to make your own DIY crackers, there is an excellent tutorial on Jamie Oliver's website, click here to see what you will need.

I like a shortcut when it comes to saving some extra time for myself so that I can be even more productive with other holiday chores like wrapping presents or baking gingerbread cookies.

There are countless things you can place inside your crackers. Personalised items, funny mini toys, mini puzzles, chocolates or even jewellery. As my family has not opened mine, I'm afraid I won't be able to share with you what my crackers contain but I can quietly whisper you that it's undoubtedly personalised for my loved ones.
