Autumn heralds the start of the crunchy leaves, crisp chill to the air, big coats and snuggly blankets as the nights draw in. I love everything about Autumn. The colouring leaves, cooling breezes so I can put on my favourite cosy sweaters when I go outside, beautifully packaged autumn candles to light up my sofa sessions and of course because this is pumpkin season. I don't know what but there is just a feeling in the air that makes me want to put pumpkin in everything during the chilly months.
All these nice things I just love about Fall.
I tend to be spending more time inside than out during these months so if you are anything like me, you need to bring those signature autumn scents into your home.
As the new season has officially arrived, it's time to make your house smell like Fall too.
There are many different ways to achieve that so today I will be sharing my ways what I use to bring the autumnal scents inside.
1. Dry Fruit, Herbs, and Spices
I believe that potpourri is one of the most popular ways to make your house smell nice.
Dried fruits, flowers paired with nuts and spices that create the autumnal hues like yellow and orange not only will look fantastic in your favourite decorative bowl but the scent will sway though the air leaving your home smelling fantastic.
My favourite combination is Balam nut slices, Amra pods, putka pods, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, rose hips, orange slices, and star pods. This potpourri creates a pumpkin spice smell. To find out How to Dry Oranges for potpourri, click here.
2.Simmer a Pot
To get the whole house smelling incredible just place a small saucepan on the stove, fill it with water to about one inch below brim and to start just place your ingredients in the pan.
There are several ingredients that you can use to smell like an enchanted autumn forest in your kitchen. My favourite combination for Autumn is orange peels, cinnamon sticks, one teaspoon of nutmeg, one teaspoon of vanilla extract and some cloves. Bring to a boil and simmer on low throughout the day for a cosy scent.

3.Bakes
There's nothing better than filling your home with the smell of warm baked goods fresh out of the oven. Anytime I'm baking banana bread, I always fill the house with a warm smell, like I mentioned before I like to put pumpkin in literally every recipe during the chilly months, so I tend to switch the usual banana bread to a Healthy Pumpkin Bread in Fall.
The spices and the pumpkin creates together a delicious smell plus you get to eat it.
Absolutely win for the eyes, taste buds, and nose.
4.Mulled wine
While mulling a wine in spices and fruit, the house fills up with an intense fall flavour.
Combine oranges, cinnamon sticks, cloves, caster sugar, vanilla pod and a bottle of red wine. In a pan, let all the ingredients and just enough wine to cover everything up to simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved, then bring to the boil until you've got a thick syrup. When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and pour the rest of the wine in.
Gently heat the wine, and after around 5 minutes, when it's warm ladle one glass then get comfy in your favourite sweater and enjoy the aroma.
Or a cup of coffee like this from Homesense, it has a real Fall flavour that hardly can be beaten.
5. Candles
Candles are not just for Autumn, they are the perfect way to make your home smell amazing no matter what season we are in. I like to strike a match and light up a candle in every room in the house. While curling up on the sofa with a good book, working in my office on a new post or having a long soak in the bath.
It's Autumn, so it's time to opt for the sweet warming, subtly-spiced candles like pine or pumpkins scented candles. I know, pumpkin again.

6.Wreaths
Another way to bring Fall into your home is to hang some gorgeous wreaths above your fireplace, walls or doors. While the apples are ripe for the picking outside, that's right you can tell I'm from the countryside I like to bring those delicious apple scents into our home with a combination of pumpkin spice, cinnamon sticks and anise. Full of variations when it comes to fragrances. If I buy a wreath, I usually pick it up from Homesense and just spruce it up with some essential oils to last the scent longer. But, making your own wreath will get you in the fall spirit.

7. Scented pinecones
It's just not Autumn without pinecones all over in our home. I like to place them in decorative bowl, add them to a potpourri or wreath, leave some cones on the shelves of a bookcase or decorate the tree with it during Christmas. I will show you how I amp up my pinecones that keeps it scents all season long. I buy cones that are already dry from the store as it is easier to play with. To make scented pinecones, just go with your nose on this one. There are countless fragrances that you can add to them. I like using cinnamon, apple, orange, grapefruit, vanilla, peppermint, or pine. As it's Autumn, the combination of cinnamon and apple work very well together.
Here's how to make them:
I usually use a spray bottle, fill it up with water and add about 10 drops of essential oil to it.
Then I spray the cones and place them inside a zip bag and leave them there for at least a day. I remove the bag, and I put them around our home or use them for a decorative a wreath. If the scents fade, just repeat the process.
The tones beautifully infuse the room without being overpowering.
These are my tricks to make the house smells as a snuggle as a cosy blanket feels during the colder months.
Would love to hear your hacks to bring a little bit of the season inside.
