5 Reasons Why I Switched To Plant-based Protein Powder

Protein plays many roles in our body, so It's obvious that is crucial to good health.
Our body uses protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals.
Nails and hair mostly made of protein. Plus, it provides our body with a structural framework and maintains a healthy pH balance. It also builds and repair tissues.

Overall protein is a vital part of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining good health as it is a
component of every cell in our body. Chemically, protein is composed of amino acids, and as our body does not store that it is our responsibility to supply enough protein daily from the foods we eat. To do that there are many delicious sources out there.
Like, meat, especially poultry and fish, eggs, seeds and nuts, dairy products like milk, yoghurt and cheese, beans, legumes and soy products like tofu. You can also increase your protein intake with protein bars, and protein shakes.

Protein doesn't give you extra strength.
I'm afraid it's not a magical powder that does it all for you. If you wish to build muscle mass or to lose weight, you still need to get your butt to the gym and workout.
But it undoubtedly matters what type of protein you eat as it can play an essential role in successful muscle build, weight loss or just general good health.

This is why I wanted to share my story why I switched from whey protein to a plant-based powder.

1. Digestibility


Whey protein has indeed been the number 1 supplement when it comes to shaping your body. However, every time I had my shakes, I felt bloated and super uncomfortable in my body. So I switched the regular milk to plant-based milk, like soy, almond or coconut and I gave the shakes another try, but I felt the same way, and I had the same reaction to it.
So It was an obvious sign that my body struggled to break down the lactose in the powder. On the other hand, whey protein contains much less lactose than other dairy products, but even a small amount of it can trigger the same reaction to some individuals, like me.
Now I use plant-based powders like hemp protein and pea protein. They are easy to digest, and I do not feel any discomfort like when I used whey protein.

2. Skin benefits


My quest for clear skin has been an extremely tiring journey. Since my teens, I have always been struggling with acne. I can honestly say that I'm a long-time sufferer. I don't even want to think about all that money I wasted on expensive moisturisers, toners, face washes and of course facemasks. I've tried to drink a copious amount of water through the day, following a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercises but nothing seems to get rid of them.

I'm still on my dairy-free quest, and my skin has managed to stay relatively calm. Even though it is far from being perfect but at least now I know the cause of it.

3.Results


As I said before after drinking whey protein, I had very unpleasant belly cramps, and my body couldn't digest the lactose which means even though I was drinking my shakes that contained 25gr protein possibly my body couldn't even digest half of that.
This did not increase my protein intake, so I certainly did not reach my goals with it. It only helped me to get some bellyaches. On the other hand, when I use vegan protein powder from Plantaforce, I get all the nutrients and protein that I need to maintain a healthy diet and repair faster after workouts.

4.Taste


With all the different quality ingredients that go into plant-based protein blends, these powders tend to be a little pricier than an average whey protein.
