To begin the holiday season people starting to decorate their homes with all sort of Christmas decorations. Garland on the staircase, mistletoe above and wreath on the door, lights in our windows and outside our homes.
Every year I dress up our Christmas tree in different colour theme. This year I pick the Scandinavian style which is a rustic, country style. The reason behind my pick, we moved into our new home last year Christmas time, and the first room that we decided to refurbish and decorate was the kitchen.
We created a rustic, country style but also the elegant atmosphere in this room and we wanted to place the Christmas tree here, so this style was an obvious choice for this year's tree. I will share with all of you the journey of the refurbishment later on.
Check out my way of decorating a Scandinavian styled Christmas tree below and read about my decorating tips to have a beautiful fir like in the John Lewis's shopping window at home for the following years.
In my childhood we always had a real Christmas tree as I used to live in a small village where a lot of people near us used to sell them for a bargain price, but since I moved into a big city it seems like a lot of hassle to get a real tree so for the past five years we have had an artificial tree. It was a huge change and difference for me in the beginning as our first fake tree was a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and I couldn't stand it.
No matter how beautifully I tried to decorate it, it's looked too unrealistic, and it did not feel Christmasy at all. So I found another option the PE (Polyethylene) tree, this type of tree is the most realistic artificial tree that you can buy.
All the branches are made to be natural as much as possible to look like the real deal. Of course, it's more expensive, but it pays back over time.
If you like the smell of the fresh cut fir and you do not want to miss that this year either I would recommend placing some Winter Fir Scent Sticks onto the inside branches.
You will find everything I used to decorate my tree at the end of the post.
What did I use to create a Scandinavian themed tree?
Before the actual decorating I usually use a tree skirt or a mat to hide the wires of the lighting. However, I ordered the wrong size and the new one didn't get here on time, so I ended up without a skirt this year. It makes it look much cleaner and tidier. It's all set to start the fun part.
As we all know you start the tree decorating with the lights. I used plain warm white Christmas tree lights. Then added all the different ribbons. I used three different ones, pure red, white and tartan.
After that, I started to place all the natural decorations like holly berries, pinecones onto the branches.
I also used classic red and white ornaments. I usually put two baubles together and hang them up. However, this year I hang them one by one as I used all differently shaped baubles. I like to use ribbon on Christmas trees, last year I made a bow out of ribbon, and I used as a Christmas topper.
f you follow my blog regularly, you might read a post about how to make gingerbread Christmas ornaments. (If you missed it click here to read it.) The tree decorations that I made in that post I also hang them on this tree. I saw a beautifully decorated tree last year on Balsam Hill's website, and I really loved how they used frozen berry and another sort of stems, so I also purchased some of those for myself.
The key part of the tree is the topper, so I wanted something special. I created a bunch out of these frozen berry stems which then I put on the top of the tree as a topper.
A tip: Never throw out your old decorations as they might fit your colour scheme once again. If you would like to add an extra touch to create a more rustic feeling you can also hang some wooden crafted tree decorations.
Now's the time to sit back with a cuppa and admire the tree.
Do you like to decorate your tree with your family and friends or do you prefer to do it on your own?
What theme have you picked for your tree this year to celebrate the most magical time of the year?
