Handmade Christmas present

s

Nothing says more than 'I've thought about this present' like a handmade Christmas gift to your family or friends.
Every year I make something by hand to add an extra touch to the presents that I give to my loved ones. Gingerbread is one of my favourite holiday treats. The possibilities with this dough are endless.
You can make cookies, desserts, build a super cute gingerbread house and you can even make ornaments out of them.

As this year I picked the Nordic theme for the Christmas tree I wanted to make some crafted Christmas tree decorations out of gingerbread dough.
Making my own ornaments during the lovely period of Christmas is one of those traditions that I love since I was a kid.

I shared one of my favourite memory of this in this post.

The cookies turned out to be so pretty, so I decided to share those handmade hanging decorations with my loved ones.

If you follow my blog you probably have seen that I shared a super easy gingerbread recipe, click here to read. However, if you want to make your ornament last longer, you can follow the gingerbread clay recipe I will share below.
I went for the white icing on the cookies that I have kept for our tree and for the rest of the jolly gingers I picked colourful decorations.

With all the excitement that comes with Christmas let's create some unique presents to all of our family and friends.

Gingerbread Clay Recipe:

2 Cups of baking soda

1 Cup of cornstarch

1& 1/2 cups of cold water

1 tbsp of cinnamon spice

1 tsp ginger spice

 1 tsp clove spice

For richer colouring add brown food colouring to the dough

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a large pot and stir continuously over medium-high heat. You will know when the clay is done when it has reached a consistency similar to mashed potatoes.

Once it's done transfer the clay to a heat-safe bowl and cover it with a towel until it cools enough to knead.

When the clay has entirely cooled down, add the food colouring and spices. Now time for a bit of kneading when the clay has reached a consistency like a dough you ready to roll it out with a rolling pin. Cut the cookies with a cookie cutter. If you wish to hang them on the tree make a hole with a drinking straw. It will take roughly 24 hours for your ornaments to dry. No baking!

Happy Holidays everyone!
